The rise of Generative AI and its future

The rise of Generative AI and its future

Blog Highlights

Generative AI became a fast-forwarding term than Web 3.0, Blockchain, or Data Science since last year! No one saw it coming and tools like ChatGPT, and Dall-E became the talk of the world in just a few months.

And why not? ChatGPT helps like a dedicated employee who obeys your command and doesn’t ask for anything in return! (Though, Open AI is planning to roll out their subscription model as well).

Well, tools like ChatGPT are here to stay and more innovation in these sounds promising. The current
nascent Generative AI tools are just the tip of the iceberg. There is more to it on the way. It will change the course of action and how we engage with things in the world. Right from digital media to Agriculture, Automotive, and Healthcare, the future will change faster than one can anticipate.

Successful Use Cases of Generative AI

Agriculture

India’s agriculture is a central pillar for around 60% of the Indian population. We all hear that lack of rain affected the yield, uncertain rainfall, and hailstorms damaged the crops. This is where the life of an Indian farmer generally revolves around. The harsh climate and weather dependency add to the woes of the farmers.
But, looks like AI is here to the rescue. Thoughtful implementation of AI tools can give our farmers a no-brainer. The evolution of AI tools like Rezo.ai can help in data generation for temperature analysis, rain probability prediction, best sowing time, wind speed, and more. Adding to it, AI-powered drones can help in spraying insecticides with precision and without involving farmers in the field.

Marketing and Media

Marketing and media are some of the successful areas where Generative AI is showering its capabilities. Be it messenger automation, image generation, design ideas, text content generation, or email automation; content creation is simplified with Generative AI. However, human inputs are imperative to get the best result out of such tools.

Authentic marketing practices involve human sentiments and human purchase behaviour. These cannot be automated with machines or tools. It needs human involvement in multiple stages. The currently available tools are not capable of providing such experiences. However, Generative AI tools help largely in data analysis, strategy building, text content writing, and more.

Chip Designing

Innovation is always necessary for an industry like Chip Designing. Its designing and manufacturing were always cumbersome things. But, the evolution of generative AI is helping in simplifying tech and optimizing it for all good reasons.

Based on all the previous chip manufacturing data, Generative AI can connect neural links better. It can find differences and can work on building highly efficient chips that are smaller in size and fast in performance.

Automotive

Automotive Industry has started to leverage Generative AI in optimizing their manufacturing processes, designing parts for efficiency, and more. Generative AI is also helping in creating designs as per specific requirements. The tools enable the research and development team to design and strategize products of the next generation.

Areas where Generative AI will fail

We’ll talk about ChatGPT here since this is likely the most used tool by us! As a fundamental, what ChatGPT does is put together snippets from different parts of the web and make them look like coherent articles.

Inaccurate data

If you are a subject-matter expert, over time, you will realise that the content put out by ChatGPT is not factual. Most of the information is inaccurate or irrelevant because of the type of data it collects from the web.

Since there is no fact-check mechanism, it cannot differentiate between accurate and inaccurate information.

Weird Imagery

Also, Generative AI tools like Dall-E often create weird imagery that may not be even possible in the real world.

“Create a 3D render of Gold Fish walking in Times Square, New York”.

The output from the tool will make you realize that the tool will show up anything just to please you without actually making any sense.

Reason?

In this case, the tool doesn’t know if a fish is capable of walking outside water or not. But, it will follow your command and will present something to you.

Faulty at-source

AI tools can be manipulative at times. It can be fed with incorrect data thus, creating confusion, misunderstanding, and even disputes.

How will Generative AI impact our lives?

Generative AI is made to simplify our lives daily. However, it will certainly impact our problem-solving skills, motivation, and capabilities to learn complex concepts. Owing to these reasons, several schools in India (and across the world) have banned the use of tools like ChatGPT.

Google still largely dominates online search. It will continue to dominate it. However, AI integration can be a possibility shortly. Obviously, with the popularity and easiness of ChatGPT, the search volumes in Google would have been slightly reduced. Hence, Google will try to counter any threat that could disrupt its online search expertise.

Also, there will be advanced tools to differentiate AI written content and human written content. These may be similar to the plagiarism identification tools used to detect web duplicate content.

GPTZero is one great tool that clears the clutter and lets you differentiate AI content from human-written content.

Will Google always remain relevant?

When Google tried to combat ChatGPT with its Generative AI platform ‘Bard’, it showed errors in its first attempt. The world took note of it and this small error eroded $100B of Google in a single day.
Well, this is not the first time Google got a beating by its fierce competitors. When Google tried to create an interactive social media platform ‘Google Plus; it didn’t work out well.

The decline of Orkut, Buzz, and Google Plus

Similarly, Orkut and Buzz were other two platforms (owned by Google) that were interesting initially. But, a lack of innovation and poor UI led to a decline in user time. This was the time when other social media platforms were born or were trying to position themselves. These were more compelling and people were spending more time than Google’s social media platforms.

Introduction of Shorts – YT’s short-form content destination

In the same vein, Google-owned YouTube is facing a cut-throat challenge from other content destinations such as TikTok (outside India), Instagram, etc. To combat these short-form content platforms, YouTube introduced ‘Shorts’- YouTube’s short-form content layout. However, it still falls short when it comes to user engagement on other media.

Google Smartphones

Remember the Google Nexus? The high-end smartphone offering from Google? They looked good, and they were fast but they didn’t end up so well. Google Nexus smartphones were then replaced by the Google Pixel series. These have stayed for quite some time. However, the market share for Google Pixel is still thin. However, It would be too early to say if these will ever capture a significant smartphone market.

Summary

Generative AI is here to stay and it will change the way we do things. The evolution of AI modules will continue to evolve and will help in simplifying things in all forms of life. Still, one must believe in the power of the human’s dynamic mind. It is flexible and can store, learn and process data in more productive and effective ways.
